We are a community of believers who aspire to provide the students in our care with an education of excellence rooted in and sustained by our shared commitment to the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, knowing that we are created by Him and inspired by truth, committed to ourselves and to each other, grateful to our families and in awe of the world around us.

Through the values, with which Cardinal Vaughan opened the doors of the school 150 years ago, we recognise that every member is equal in the eyes of God and worthy of respect. Like him, we continue to pursue academic excellence, civilised standards of behaviour and an awareness of traditional family values underpinned by the Gospel message and the teachings of the Catholic Church.

The dream of Cardinal Vaughan, our founder, was to equip children with an educated conscience that would enable them to act with freedom and justice. Over one hundred and fifty years later, our aim is to produce highly educated and articulate young people, strong in their faith and with the conviction to establish the kingdom of God in this world.

St. Bede is our patron saint and his dedication to the pursuit of learning and his eagerness for the knowledge of the Lord are also qualities that inspire and enrich our work. Our conviction is that everything we do must begin, continue and end in dependence on God.

The school aims to develop the intellectual curiosity and creativity of every pupil through the provision of enriching curricular and co-curricular activities. It seeks to provide the right balance of support and encouragement to motivate each child to reach their full potential. It intends each pupil to leave prepared for life beyond school where they will have the courage and ability to lead by example, contributing positively to the communities in which they live and to society in general.

Our holistic approach helps children develop to be leaders of their own lives, working through our character program to find the inner strength needed to have a positive effect in their relationships with their families, friends and teachers.
