Applying and Visiting

When should I apply for a place?

We welcome applications throughout the year. However, to secure a place for the Upper Third (Year 7) Entrance assessment on 10th January 2026, the deadline for applications is 12th December 2025.

How do I apply?

Applications can be completed via our online application form. Once submitted, our Admissions Team will guide you through each step, from assessment to offer.

Can we visit before applying?

Absolutely. Families are warmly invited to attend one of our Open Events or to book a private tour by emailing admissions@sbcm.co.uk.

What year groups do you accept new pupils into?

We accept pupils into Prep (Nursery –Year 6), College (Years 7–10) and Sixth Form (Years 12). Mid-year entries may also be considered depending on availability. We are unable to accept any applications for Upper Fifth (Y11) or Upper Sixth (Y13).

Do you accept applications from families of all faiths?

Yes. St Bede’s is a Catholic school, but we warmly welcome children of all faiths and none. We simply ask that all families are supportive of our ethos and values.

Are there grade requirements for Sixth Form Study?

Establishing a strong foundation at GCSE level is paramount to providing students with the optimal chance for success in their chosen A level pursuits and beyond.

We ask that students attain at least Grade 6 in the subjects to be studied at A level, with the exception of Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics where a minimum of Grade 7 is required. Applicants who wish to study Business or Economics, but have not had the opportunity to take a GCSE in either of these subjects, should ideally attain at least a Grade 6 in Mathematics.

What subjects can my child study in Sixth Form?

With over 20 A-Level subjects available, Students can study three or four A-Levels plus an additional qualification in EPQ, Sustainability or Core Maths. Esteemed by universities, they enable students to showcase their ability to work independently, offer an opportunity to delve beyond the curriculum, and can influence the award of a place at certain universities.

Assessments and Taster Days

Is there an entrance assessment?

Yes. All applicants sit an age-appropriate assessment. For younger pupils, this is informal and play-based. For older pupils, it may include English, Maths and reasoning tasks.

What happens on a Taster day?

Your child will spend a day experiencing lessons, meeting teachers and pupils, and taking part in school life. It’s a chance for us to see where they feel most comfortable and confident.

Are references required?

Yes, we request a reference from your child’s current school to ensure we understand their learning progress and pastoral needs.

Offers, Fees and Bursaries

When will we hear if our child has been offered a place?

You will normally receive an offer by email within a few days of assessment and reference checks.

What are the school fees?

Fee information is available on our Fees and Bursaries page. Fees include tuition, most curriculum activities, and many co-curricular opportunities. Lunches and non compulsory trips are at an additional cost.

Do you offer bursaries or financial assistance?

Yes. Means-tested bursaries are available to support families who would otherwise be unable to access a St Bede’s education. Full details and application timelines can be found on our Fees and Bursaries page.

Are scholarships available?

We offer scholarships for Year 7 applications in areas such as academic excellence, sport, music, and the arts. Scholarships are awarded based on ability and potential demonstrated at assessment or audition. We also offer academic scholarships for students joining Year 8 and Year 9.

How do bursaries differ from scholarships?

A bursary is means-tested financial support based on family income. A scholarship is awarded for outstanding ability and is not means-tested.

Faith and Ethos

Do Catholic pupils get priority?

As a Catholic school, we aim to serve the Catholic community while remaining inclusive. Catholic pupils may be given priority if demand exceeds capacity, but all applications are welcomed and considered on individual merit.

Will my non-Catholic child have to take part in religious activities?

Yes, all pupils attend assemblies, prayers, and Religious Education lessons as part of our shared ethos, but our approach is inclusive, reflective and welcoming to those of all beliefs.

Yes, sacramental preparation (First Holy Communion and Confirmation) is offered in partnership with local parishes for pupils who wish to take part.
