This term, Prep 4 are on an exciting journey in art, where in each lesson they are inspired by a different artist from around the world. They enjoyed learning about the Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian who was born in the Netherlands. His father was a drawing teacher and he was determined to be an artist from a young age. Throughout his life, his style gradually changed from realistic to more abstract. His art was related to his studies on spiritual and philosophical themes. He created the term ‘neoplasticism’, which means art using straight lines and clearly defined primary colours. He used pure, glowing colours and expressive brushstrokes. He developed a fascination with line and changes in form.
Prep 4 enjoyed creating some super sketchbook work about Piet and some art work for our growing display about artists from around the world.

In the Prep, we endeavour to inspire students to be creative and express themselves. We allow time for the students to showcase creativity as often as possible and they are encouraged and praised along the way. We display lots of the students’ work around the Prep, which not only celebrates their achievements, it makes the Prep a vibrant and aesthetically pleasing environment for the children to learn, grow and be happy.

A great art link that my class enjoy is – https://www.tate.org.uk/kids with lots of different activities and quizzes that the children can get involved with at home.

I would recommend The Whitworth Art Gallery which is a stone’s throw from St Bede’s.  Always has interesting and inspiring exhibitions with a fabulous cafe.”
