Last week, our Upper Fifth Geographers set off to Betws-y-Coed to complete compulsory fieldwork for their GCSE. Upon arrival at the Rhyd y Creuau Field Studies Centre, students had an introduction to fieldwork techniques and then layered themselves in every waterproof imaginable, ready to carry out their human fieldwork data collection in Llanwrst. The torrential rain made the use of iPads almost impossible (nothing beats pencil and paper!) yet the students showed great resilience and managed to collect their data efficiently.

The next day, the weather was far kinder to us, with the Welsh sunshine even breaking through the cloud at points, and students gathered their physical fieldwork data like pros. They collected a range of data on the Afon Conwy, with a few students taking home a sizeable volume of the river in their wellies as a souvenir.
