This term, Business and Design & Technology students have been collaborating as part of a co-curricular club called Venturelab. Split into two teams, their challenge was to design and create a product or service that they could sell at the Christmas markets and the Christmas fair.

As part of the project they have visited Manchester Design and Craft Centre, undertaken market research, and completed a Business Plan which has faced scrutiny from ‘Dragons’ in the form of Mrs Manning and Mrs Corbett. They are currently in the process of ordering from suppliers to make their goods and will be promoting their wares widely.

In order to be successful they need to work as a team, meet deadlines, communicate effectively and use their initiative to overcome the inevitable challenges they will face. Great experience for the real world.

‘Too Hot to Candle’ have chosen to make handmade bees wax candles with the goal of ‘a Spark of joy in every jar’. The bee is a signature image that represents the Bedians of the College as well as Manchester, and the candles are not only high quality but also made from 100% natural ingredients from a sustainable source.

‘Startling Stockings’ have remained true to their name and are selling personalised Christmas Stockings, ready to bring joy and sparkle to any Christmas celebration.
