Upper Sixth ‘Adolescence’ Workshop

Ms J Theriault – Sixth Form Enrichment Coordinator

This term, Upper Sixth students attended a workshop led by Ms Theriault and Mr Allsopp-Johnson on gender stereotyping, managing emotions, misogyny and relationship red flags, which took place over a series of PSMEE lessons. In a safe learning environment, students worked in groups and were prompted to learn about and respond to each other’s opinions on topics that were complex to navigate. Using the new Netflix hit series ‘Adolescence’ as a stimulus, students discussed emotions hidden beneath anger, strategies to manage rage and the way in which stereotyping can lead to both a negative self-image as well as problematic interactions with others.

Discussing harmful behaviours towards women, as well as problematic behaviours in relationships was difficult; however, the activities were thought-provoking and provided an opportunity for students to learn about the ways in which they could be more empathetic to others. Well done, Upper Sixth!
