UKS2 Prep STEM Club

Miss E Harrison – Prep Science Coordinator

This term, pupils from UKS2 have had the exciting opportunity to take part in the Prep STEM Club, led by Mrs Prince and held in the College science labs. The club has been a fantastic chance for children to explore science in a hands-on and engaging way, while learning new skills and having plenty of fun along the way.

Each week, the children have taken part in a range of activities that bring science to life. They’ve used microscopes to look closely at human and plant cells and even created their own slides using onion skin. They’ve explored what fire needs in order to burn, made their own non-Newtonian fluids, and tested different liquids to see where they sit on the pH scale. One of the sessions also involved investigating electrical insulators and conductors, helping pupils understand how electricity works in everyday materials.

STEM Club provides a valuable opportunity for pupils to build their confidence and curiosity outside of the classroom. It encourages them to think critically, ask questions, and work together to solve problems. These experiences help develop important skills that are useful not only in science but across all areas of learning.

Most of all, the club has helped spark a real enthusiasm for science. Pupils have enjoyed discovering new ideas, using real scientific equipment, and exploring the world around them in a practical and meaningful way.
