Hockey

Prep 3 & Prep 4 festival
What a great day we had at Kirkham Grammar School for the Prep 3 & Prep 4 hockey festivals. There was great excitement, as for many, this was their first time playing for a school team. All matches were mixed 5-a-side for boys and girls, and the tournament aimed to give pupils an introduction to hockey. Both teams had six matches each, and there were rolling substitutes, so all players were involved in every game. It was lovely to see how the skill level and understanding improved for all the players. A special mention must go to Mikey (Prep 4) and Vasek (Prep 3), who were voted as our players of the tournament. The Headteacher at Kirkham also commented on how chatty and engaging our pupils were. Their good manners and behaviour made them a joy to be with.

Cross country

We had four very hardy pupils who participated in the Manchester Harriers cross-country race at the start of October. The race was the weekend when storm Annie hit, as you can see from the photographs, it was a very wet and windy Saturday morning! Well done to all the pupils who ran. The O’Donoghue family were out in force: Aisling (Prep 3), Torin (Prep 3) and Honor (Prep 6) ran very well, supported by big brother Conan from Upper Third. Danny J (Prep 5) is improving in every race. All the 3km park runs that he completes on a Sunday morning are starting to pay dividends. Cross country is definitely character-building; it is an activity that is available to all pupils, regardless of experience. The next race is on Saturday, 15th November. If your child is interested, please contact Miss Sharp (asharp@sbcm.co.uk).

Netball v Stockport Grammar School

This turned out to be a good first game of the season. It was nice to see so many Prep 6 girls playing. Miss Sharp was impressed to see the team’s improved performances as the match progressed. Many of the girls also had the opportunity to try out different positions. Gone are the days when the tall girls were either goal shooters or goalkeepers! All the training on a Monday evening is paying off.

Extra development

If your child is in Prep 2 and above, now is a good time to be thinking of your child to join a local club. At an external club they will be able to develop their skills further and be able to play at a higher level. Aswell as this, they will develop friendships and become more confident. If you need any advice of teams to join please contact Mrs Lavorini (nlavorini@sbcm.co.uk or asharp@sbcm.co.uk)
