Teamwork Triumphs: L6MUR Escape Room Experience
On the 5th November, L6MUR participated in a jungle-themed escape room in the heart of Manchester. This was part of the new scheme within the Sixth Form of form trips, where the different form groups spend an afternoon doing educational, team-building outings. A group effort was displayed within our group to escape the treasure hunters and solve the puzzles. Although we did struggle and required the game master to provide us with many hints, we did escape in the nick of time with 2 minutes remaining!
Participating in an escape room encouraged the Virtue of Order because it required our form group to think and act systematically while organising information, coordinating efforts, managing time, and following logical processes to achieve a common goal. Furthermore, this enhanced our friendships with each other as we spent time with people we usually don’t outside of school. Also, it taught us to trust each other’s ideas even if they could be wrong and work through the challenges we faced during the escape room, implementing the Virtue of Respect.
Overall, as a form, we worked together as a team under stressful circumstances, which tested our friendships with each other. We learnt how to listen and respect one another’s ideas while having to actively think critically about how to escape, teaching us how to be patient with each other. This will help us in the long run as we embark on a difficult journey with our A Levels – the trip taught us that if we need help, we can go to one of our peers and ask for advice or just talk to someone who knows what we’re going through.
In conclusion, doing an escape room as a group significantly improved our coordination and relationship as a group, as we worked together to solve a difficult puzzle.
Exploring Innovation: L6WAJ’s day at the Science and Industry Museum
On the 5th of November, L6WAJ visited the Science and Industry Museum, a place that captures the spirit of discovery. The museum, a testament to Manchester, displays exhibits on the industrialization of the city.
This trip allowed us to work on the Virtue of Friendship and Loyalty. It enabled us to plan a trip by ourselves, from organising the journey there by bus and ensuring we all stayed together and were aware of our surroundings. Furthermore, the trip allowed us to build stronger friendships with each other as we spent time hanging out with those we don’t really know as well as our close friends, in a fun and interactive environment.
The afternoon out also made us better organised and learn how to structure our time, which will be beneficial for the exam season. We learned how to make decisions within a group as we decided where to go and what to do at certain times.
Overall, the trip was a success as we became closer with each other while spending time in a unique museum which urges you to appreciate the place we live in.
From Past to Present: L6GOO Reflects at the Imperial War Museum
For the form trip, L6GOO went to the Imperial War Museum in the Quays, which contains a vast collection of artifacts and exhibits related to modern conflict, specifically WW1 and WW2. Even though the journey there was stressful, it was worth it due to what we learned. The museum was fascinating, especially the ‘time stacks’ in the WW2 section, where you can see the personal stories and possessions of ordinary people during that time. After the museum, we went to Kargo MKT for some lunch, and the options there were delicious!
This trip allowed us to work on the Virtue of Order; it required a lot of organising and planning on our part for the trip to go ahead smoothly. Additionally, we were able to work on the Virtue of Friendship & Loyalty; this trip allowed us all to hang out and connect with each other outside of school, which was lovely and has encouraged us to spend time with each other even more.
