Careers Update November 2025

Ms Alyson Boustead – Careers Co-ordinator

Green Careers Week

We started November with national Green Careers Week, where students from pre-Prep through to Sixth Form learned about jobs in the green sector, heard talks from people who work for the NHS and the Environment Agency, and all staff throughout school made a green pledge for a sustainable future.

STEM Women Apprenticeship Event

Lower Sixth students attended the STEM Women Apprenticeship Event at the Bridgewater Hall to network with some of the region’s biggest apprenticeship employers. They got lots of great advice, had their portraits drawn by a robot and learned about life as an apprentice. The companies exhibiting included Heineken, IBM, KPMG, EY, Lloyds Banking, Siemens and Rolls Royce and gave us excellent feedback about how engaged, confident, and inquisitive our students were, asking thoughtful and insightful questions throughout the event.

Sysmex Scientific Symposium

Students from Upper Fifth and Lower Sixth were the first students ever to be invited to attend a day of lectures at the Sysmex Scientific Symposium held at the Midland Hotel. They had an incredible day, which started in a packed lecture theatre, where they were publicly congratulated on their fantastic mock results and then observed fascinating state of the art machines and got to listen to inspiring scientists. The lecture subjects ranged from antibiotics and sustainability to AI, haematology and the process of assays and obtaining data. Overall, the symposium was an amazing experience and an opportunity to experience the world of professional science outside of school. One attendee added, ‘Listening to people who had such a great interest in such specific problems made me realise how much I want to do Medicine and aspire to have the drive which all those scientists do’.
