Careers Update February
Ms Alyson Boustead – Careers Coordinator

February has been a busy month already, with Lower Sixth one to one discussions and an upcoming visit to the ‘University and Apprenticeship Search’ at Old Trafford to herald the beginning of their journey into Post-18 pathways.
Our main event was the University and Careers Fair on February 5th, where we welcomed over 30 stalls comprising organisations and businesses, local, national and multinational, the armed forces and universities and colleges, who came to speak to students from U4 to U6 about their next steps at 16 and 18.
During the evening we had two talks, one by Dr McMonagle and Miss Brown, about applying to university and the other, by Dr Miri Firth, a senior lecturer at the University of Manchester and an internationally recognised expert in employability, careers education, and post-18 pathway, who gave a brilliant interactive presentation called ‘Employability starts now’.
The fair was attended by 300 students and parents and the stallholders were hugely complimentary about the calibre of student they spoke to and the great conversations they had.
May I offer my thanks to all who were involved, businesses and parents, including: Dr Miri Firth, Heart Valve Voice, BAE Systems, Isio, Cooper Parry, Go Ahead, the RAF, the Army, the Merchant Navy, GM Police, Express Solicitors, McHale and Co., Leading Property Lawyers, Urbanise, Taylor Wimpey, Think Pacific, BIMM, University of Manchester NHS Foundation Trust: Medical Undergraduates, Biochemical Research and Clinical Engineers – all of whom are keen to come back to speak to our students across the year.
Coming up in March, we will be marking National Careers Week, attending the University and Apprenticeship Fair at Old Trafford, welcoming four more speakers to the 6th Form Speaker’s Programme and running competitions: Step into the NHS (U3-U4) and the Young Enterprise £10 Challenge (L5 and L6).
