One of the stars of the Lower Sixth has been making headlines this week, as Lucy Bennett has made it through to the final four of the Spirit of Salford award.
Lucy has worked tirelessly through volunteering for one year and four months in her local youth centre to be recognised for the prestigious award, which has made both staff and students proud.
The purpose of the award is to help shine a light on the rising stars of the community of Salford, and help emphasise what young pillars of the community are doing to help the Salford citizens.
Lucy stated that her favourite thing about working in the Deans Youth Community Centre is ‘helping the younger people and making an impact in the community’. By Lucy choosing to give up her after school free time on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays to help work and make the centre thrive shows Lucy’s love of volunteering, as well as her compassion and need to help others.
The award helps to showcase what new, young dynamic people are achieving on an everyday basis in Salford and helps also to inspire more young people to use their talents for the better and make an impact in their local towns and cities.
Whilst also inspiring younger people, Lucy has now shown her fellow Sixth Form students that our skills can be put to good use and can be used to help influence our own various local environments.
