Means Tested Bursaries

Entry to St Bede’s is on a fee paying basis although a limited number of means tested bursaries are available to help cover a proportion of our fees.

INSPIRED · COMMITTED · GRATEFUL ·

We do not offer financial assistance bursaries for those pupils in the Prep School.

A limited number of means tested bursaries are available on entry into the school.

Assistance is calculated on a sliding scale. The granting of a bursary is discretionary. In making its decisions, the College considers a wide range of appropriate matters including, but not limited to, parental/guardian income (from all sources), assets (including personal property) and other matters that are particular to the pupil such as family circumstances. Bursaries will also be reassessed annually.

A home visit may be requested to form a better picture of family circumstances and the College expects bursary applicants to have made every effort to maximise their income. Once the bursary applications are evaluated and home visits are carried out, as appropriate, offers of support are sent out in writing.

Bursaries may also be provided to parents who need financial support at other times during their child’s period at the College. This may occur due to redundancy, long-term illness or other personal reasons. In these circumstances, parents will be asked to complete a Bursary Application Form in order that an assessment of their financial status can be determined and, where possible, help or flexibility with the payment of fees can be provided.

Apply for a bursary

Parents who wish to apply for financial assistance must fill out a bursary application form and be submitted at the same time as the College application. The bursary application and guidance notes are available from Mr Clementin Popescu via email or post. To apply for a Bursary contact admissions@sbcm.co.uk.

Applications for bursaries received after offer letters have been sent out will not be considered until next academic year.

Upper Third candidates

On 28 February 2025, the College will write to the parents of all Upper Third (Year 7) applicants. If your child is successful in the Entrance Examination, you will receive a formal offer of a place together with details of any bursary to be awarded. Please note, even if your child is not successful, you will still receive an email notification on the same date.

Sixth Form candidates

Any offer of a bursary place is conditional upon GCSE results. A preliminary guide to the level of support that may be offered will be supplied in advance of GCSE results. Full details of any bursary award will be confirmed once the GCSE results are known and a place has been confirmed.
