GCSE Subject List
At St. Bede’s, most students undertake nine subjects for their GCSE studies.
The following subjects are considered core and are mandatory for all students: English Language, English Literature, Religion, Mathematics, and Science. The majority of students opt for the Trilogy Science course, which covers Biology, Chemistry, and Physics and is equivalent to two GCSEs. However, there is also the option to pursue Separate Sciences, earning a GCSE qualification for each discipline. Additionally, students in the top set for Mathematics will also undertake the Level 2 Certificate in Further Mathematics qualification.
From the extensive list of options, three subjects are chosen to complement the core subjects. The options include: Art, Business, Classical Civilisation, Computer Science, Dance, Design and Technology, Drama, Economics, French, Geography, German, History, Latin, Music, Physical Education, Separate Science (which leads to a GCSE in each discipline), and Spanish.
In addition to academic studies, all students participate in Physical Education and PSMEE lessons, which encompass a comprehensive program of moral and spiritual education, support with revision techniques, and guidance on career pathways.
