GCSE Joy for Upper Fifth Bedians

We were delighted to welcome our Upper Fifth pupils back to College this morning as they received their GCSE results. There was a wonderful atmosphere across St Bede’s, as pupils, parents and teachers came together to celebrate an outstanding set of achievements and the exceptional progress made by the Class of 2026.

This year group celebrated our best GCSE results in recent history, with half of all grades awarded at Grade 7 or above and a third of pupils achieving an average of Grade 7 or higher across all of their subjects.

The cohort as a whole exceeded their baseline predictions, with pupils achieving, on average, half a grade higher across every subject. More than 10% of all grades were the coveted Grade 9, while over 80% of pupils achieved at least one Grade 7 or above. These results are a wonderful reflection not only of academic achievement, but of the hard work, commitment and determination shown across the entire year group.

Among the many individual successes, Lina achieved an exceptional seven Grade 9s and two Grade 8s, while Jibrail secured eight Grade 9s alongside a Grade 8 and a Grade 6. Congratulations also go to Jacob, Michele, Nika, Tiffany, Carey and Sophie, each of whom achieved at least four Grade 9s.

We are especially proud of Xavier and Javah who, alongside their extensive elite football commitments, achieved an average of Grade 8 across all of their GCSE subjects. Their achievements are a fantastic example of the determination and commitment our pupils bring to all aspects of Bedian life.

We are equally delighted that so many of the year group will be continuing their Bedian journey in our Sixth Form, following in the footsteps of our Upper Sixth leavers, who celebrated their own outstanding A Level results last week.

Mrs Kemp, Headteacher, shared her pride in the achievements of the year group:

“These results are a testament to the resilience, determination and talent of our pupils, who have been supported so strongly by their teachers and families. It is inspiring to see how much they have achieved, and I know they will carry this success and confidence forward into their next steps.”

Today, however, is about much more than the grades on a piece of paper. It is about celebrating how far our pupils have come, the young people they have become and everything that lies ahead of them. We are incredibly proud of the Class of 2026 and look forward to seeing so many of them return in September to begin the next chapter of their Bedian journey.

Congratulations, Class of 2026.
