Mr Sam Griffin – PE Teacher & Head of Football
Following seven challenging rounds of competition against some of the strongest school teams in the country, St Bede’s U15 football team were deservedly crowned ESFA National Champions after a superb performance in the national final at Stoke city’s best365 stadium.
The occasion was made even more special by the exceptional support from the St Bede’s community. The final was extremely well attended, with pupils from U3 through to L5 travelling to support the team. They were joined by a fantastic number of staff and parents, whose encouragement and enthusiasm created a memorable atmosphere throughout the match.
The boys started the game in outstanding fashion, taking control from the opening whistle. Two quick-fire goals from Tobi within the first seven minutes gave St Bede’s a commanding 2–0 lead and provided the perfect start to the final. Both goals were finished with confidence and composure, rewarding the team’s positive approach and early pressure.
The remainder of the match was closely contested, with both sides battling hard and creating opportunities. However, St Bede’s demonstrated the qualities that have characterised their remarkable cup run throughout the season. Excellent resilience, discipline, organisation and commitment ensured that they remained focused under pressure and protected their two goal advantage.
Every member of the squad played their part in the victory, contributing to a determined and hardworking team performance. Defensively, the boys were resolute, while their work rate and togetherness across the pitch reflected the standards they have maintained throughout the competition.
At the final whistle, St Bede’s were crowned as 2–0 winners and ESFA National Champions. It was a fitting reward for a group of players who have shown tremendous dedication, perseverance and teamwork across a number of years at the college.
This achievement represents a significant milestone for the college and is one that the players, staff and supporters can be immensely proud of. Congratulations to the entire squad on an outstanding accomplishment and a truly memorable season.
