Careers Line-Up: A Packed and Inspiring May

Ms Alyson Boustead – Careers Coordinator

May has been a busy month for the Careers Department at St Bede’s. From hosting industry guest speakers to celebrating our leaving students, we have been working hard to open doors, spark ambitions, and guide our young people toward exciting future paths.

Here is a snapshot of what we have been up to this month:

🎭 Creative Sparks & Real-World Insights
We were absolutely delighted to welcome Emily Rogers from BIMM University to the college this month. Emily delivered a fantastic session focused on careers in the fast-paced creative and performing arts industries. She gave our students an insider’s view of what life is really like as a BIMM student. It was an eye-opening look at the variety of professional pathways available in the arts, in a city that leads the way in the creative sector.

🎓 Farewell to Our Upper Sixth: ‘Wise Words’
We officially waved a fond goodbye to our Upper Sixth (U6) students during their final careers assembly. To send them off in style, we shared a truly special rolling PowerPoint titled, ‘What would you tell your 18-year-old self?’ This was a heartwarming compilation of advice, life lessons, and wisdom written especially for them by the (very wise!) staff here at St Bede’s College. We wish our U6 the absolute best of luck as they step into their next chapters—we know they will do us proud!

🤝 Powerful New Partnerships
This month has also been about building more exceptional external networks to give our students a competitive edge:
The London Interdisciplinary School (LIS): we have strengthened our links with LIS, who offer a fascinating BASc degree that blends the very best thinking from science and the humanities to solve real-world problems.
Start Young UK & Barclays Bank: we are thrilled to be launching a new involvement with this fantastic youth mentoring scheme, providing our students with invaluable corporate insights.
Next Generation Economics: we are nurturing links with this organisation to both support our students entering the government’s prestigious Next Generation Economics Competition and be part of Manchester’s inspiring ambition to become a UNICEF Child Friendly City.
InvestIN: an educational organisation that provides students aged 12–18 with immersive, professional-led work experience programmes, interactive simulations, and industry networking opportunities to help them test-drive their dream careers.

🔍 Looking Ahead: One-to-Ones & Careers Day!
Behind the scenes, our one-to-one guidance interviews continue with our Lower Fifth (L5) students, helping them map out their individual goals and post-16 pathways.

We are also busy finalising the final details for one of our careers flagship events: The Annual Careers Day on Monday 29th June. This is an exciting day where we invite incredible speakers (including parents and alumni) from an array of professional sectors to share their career journeys, followed by interactive workshops throughout the day.
✉️ Get Involved: We Need You!
Careers Day is a success because of our amazing community. If you would like to get involved, or if you could offer a short talk or workshop about your industry for our Careers Day, we would absolutely love to hear from you during the first week back!
