However, this year the service assumed greater significance because at 11am a new memorial was unveiled by Fr Dearman and Mrs Burnage in commemoration of all one hundred and twenty three of the fallen Bedians. The memorial consisting of twin black memorial plaques, has been placed on the wall at the end of the Vaughan Corridor, outside the Maher Library, flanking the statue of St Joseph given to the College by its founder, Cardinal Vaughan.
The plaques contain the full names of each Bedian, together with their regiments and their age when they were killed. This project was guided by the Head of History, Mr Power, who gathered a committee around him who saw the project through to its conclusion.
